2002 Plymoth to La Rochelle World Record

Tuesday April 9th, 2002 – American skipper Steve Fossett and his international crew of 9, aboard 125′ maxi catamaran PlayStation, set a new world record for the Plymouth (UK) to La Rochelle (France) ocean passage. Their time of 16 hours 41 minutes and 40 seconds for the 355 nm run left them with an average speed of 21.26 knots–the third fastest of the WSSRC’s official world record times.
The previous record for this course was set on the 40′ racing trimaran Netergy.com Challenge by Ross Hobson and Pete Berry.
